Head Coach Jason Retzlaff

Coach Retzlaff enters his 3rd season at the helm of the Spartan Men's Basketball program after spending six years as an assistant coach. Jason began as an assistant coach with the Spartans during the 2000-2001 season and then went on to be an assistant coach at North Dakota State University from 2001 to 2003. Jason returned to the Spartans for the 2003-2004 season where he helped the Spartans to a Region XIII championship and national tournament appearance. As head coach, he has compiled a 35-21 record while qualifying the Spartans for the MCAC Tourney both years.

As a former Spartan player, Jason captained the 1997-98 Spartan basketball team to a 29-0 national championship season. A two time First-Team All-American, Retzlaff was named the NJCAA Div. III Player of the Year in 1997-98. Jason is the Spartans all-time assist leader (521) and is the 4th all-time leading scorer (1059). In 2003, Retzlaff was inducted into the Minnesota Community College Conference Hall of Fame. His career moved to North Dakota State University where he was captain for the Bison. Jason was the North Central Conference Newcomer of the Year in 1999 and broke the career 3 pt field goal percentage record, while twice being named NCC All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Jason, a Fergus Falls native, is also the Head Golf Coach and an instructor at M State.
