M State women's basketball head coach Janice Hendrickson earned a much-deserved honor as Minnesota College Athletic Conference Southern Division Coach of the Year. The award was announced Feb. 25.
With only six players on her roster, Hendrickson coached the Lady Spartans to a 10-13 overall record and a 7-2 Southern Division record, qualifying for the Region 13A tournament by finishing third in the division behind Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Rochester Community and Technical College.
Among the wins was an impressive 68-63 victory over the Anoka-Ramsey CC Rams, ranked No. 8 nationally. It is one of two losses sustained by the Rams this season.
The Spartans play RCTC on Saturday, Feb. 27, for the right to advance to the Region XIII championship game Sunday. The winner advances to the national tournament.
Janice Hendrickson was named head Spartan women's basketball coach for the 2014-15 season after serving as assistant coach for seven years. She is a native of Upsala, Minn., and graduated in 2004 from M State's Fergus Falls campus, where she played basketball for two years. She went on to attend M State's Moorhead campus and earned degrees in dental assisting and dental hygiene. She is a dental hygienist at Life Smiles Dental in Fergus Falls, where she lives with her husband, Ryan.
Jess Price, a Dalton native, played basketball and softball at M State - Fergus Falls Campus in 2003-2004 and at the University of Minnesota, Crookston in 2004-2005. She then attended the University of North Dakota for her physical therapy degree and to play softball for the Fighting Sioux. She is a physical therapist at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls. Jess and her husband, Matt, have three children, Eva, Halle and Harmon.
Krista Shaikoski, is a Fergus Falls native who graduated from M State - Fergus Falls in 2009. She participated in volleyball and basketball during her two years at M State, and she continued her basketball career at Jamestown College, graduating in May 2011 with a health and fitness administration degree. She is currently employed at M State as an admissions and resource specialist and is in her fourth year as a volunteer assistant.
