Former Spartan Hughes joins M State coaching staff

Former Spartan Jordan Cody Hughes has been named the head baseball coach for Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Fergus Falls.

Hughes, a native of Dalton, Ga., played baseball for the Spartans in 2009 and has been active since then in the Fargo-Moorhead area baseball scene. He succeeds Jake Erickson, who led the Spartans to a 10-6 divisional record in 2016.

After the 2009 season, Hughes transferred to Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he earned a Secondary Math Education degree and played baseball for the MSUM club team. He has been an assistant coach for the MSUM baseball team for the past three seasons and also has been an assistant coach for Fargo's Post 400 Legion baseball team.

"We are excited to have Cody as our new baseball coach," said Gary Henrickson, M State dean of academics for liberal arts and sciences. "He brings excitement and energy to the table and is very knowledgeable about the game of baseball. We also want to thank Jake Erickson for the outstanding job he did this spring. We wish him the best of luck."

The Spartans play in the Central Division of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference and placed third in the division this year.
