Two members of the Spartan baseball team have received weekly MCAC honors for their performances during games played the week of March 31-April 6.
Sophomore Pete Gaustad was named MCAC Southern Division Pitcher of the Week. Gaustad tossed a complete game five-hitter, allowing no earned runs in a 2-1 victory over Mesabi Range. Gaustad (2-0, 0.00 ERA) struck out 11 and walked only one batter.
Freshman third baseman Ryan Scanlon batted .384 (5-13) for the Spartans with a home run, double and two runs batted in, and he scored three times. Scanlon was named the MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week.
Minnesota State Community and Technical College Spartan pitcher and baseball captain Peter Gaustad has signed an NCAA letter of intent to play for the Mavericks of Minnesota State University Mankato following the 2014 baseball season.
Gaustad, a 6-foot right-hander from Fergus Falls, registered a 5-1 record in six starts and nine appearances for the Spartans last spring with a 1.98 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 41 innings.
The Spartans were 17-14-1 last season and finished as runners up in MCAC and third in Region XIII.
