Nick Trosdahl signs letter of intent

Spartan baseball coach Nick Lewis announces the signing of a letter of intent by three-sport athlete Nick Trosdahl of Battle Lake. Trosdahl is a pitcher and first baseman.


Congratulations to the Spartan baseball team!

The Spartan baseball team defeated Central Lakes College twice over the weekend of May 9-10, earning the #5 seed in the Region XIII Tournament in St. Cloud on May 15-18.

Dick Putz and Faber Fields will be used for the tournament, and the Spartans will begin play at 11 a.m. Thursday on Faber Field against the #4 seed, St. Cloud Technical and Community College.


Two Spartan baseball players earn Player of the Week honors

Ryan Fransen has been named the MCAC Southern Division Pitcher of the week for his work in games hosted by the Spartans over the weekend. Ryan tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout, putting the Spartans into the Region 13 Tournament. Fransen allowed only a first inning hit while striking out 10. He is a sophomore from Renville, Minn.

Cole Easley has been named the MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week. Cole batted .571 (4-7, 3 R) in the two-game sweep of Central Lakes College over the weekend. Easley slugged a pair of home runs and one double while driving in five runs. He is a sophomore from Mound, Minn.


Spartans earn MCAC honors

Two members of the Spartan baseball team have received weekly MCAC honors for their performances during games played the week of March 31-April 6.

Sophomore Pete Gaustad was named MCAC Southern Division Pitcher of the Week. Gaustad tossed a complete game five-hitter, allowing no earned runs in a 2-1 victory over Mesabi Range. Gaustad (2-0, 0.00 ERA) struck out 11 and walked only one batter.

Freshman third baseman Ryan Scanlon batted .384 (5-13) for the Spartans with a home run, double and two runs batted in, and he scored three times. Scanlon was named the MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week.


Gaustad signs with MSU Mankato

Minnesota State Community and Technical College Spartan pitcher and baseball captain Peter Gaustad has signed an NCAA letter of intent to play for the Mavericks of Minnesota State University Mankato following the 2014 baseball season.

Gaustad, a 6-foot right-hander from Fergus Falls, registered a 5-1 record in six starts and nine appearances for the Spartans last spring with a 1.98 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 41 innings.

The Spartans were 17-14-1 last season and finished as runners up in MCAC and third in Region XIII.
