In November of 2012 area high school students were notified about the annual BES High School Business Plan Competition. Entries were due by February 1st and the top three business plans submissions were awarded cash prizes and training scholarships; the competition was sponsored in part by Arvig, Bremer Bank, M State's Business & Entrepreneurial Services, Subways of Hawley & Barnesville, and Wells Fargo.
First place was awarded to Ariann Rousu from Detroit Lakes, MN. She received $500 cash and a certificate for one year of Incubator office space at M State's BES. Ariann's business plan Rousu Fine Arts is a business that will put the customer's ideas or portraits to canvas or paper, bringing back the feel and lost art of original pieces in to home at great prices and the customer's satisfaction.
Second place was awarded to Molly Hill from Detroit Lakes, MN. She received $300 cash and a certificate to attend a 10-week noncredit course to business ownership that is offered by the BES. Molly's business plan Bouquet & Company is a unique wedding bouquet store that will offer an out-of-the-box take on the traditional wedding bouquet.
Third place was awarded Matty Tschider from Detroit Lakes, MN. She received $200 cash and a $75 scholarship to attend a BES seminar or workshop. Matty's business plan MT's Golf Facility is a golf facility where customers will be able to come in and have full access to an indoor driving range, miniature golf course, and golf store.
