Located in west central Minnesota, the college serves a broad rural region that has an agricultural orientation and encompasses rivers, lakes and woodlands. The communities within its area range from small towns to the growing small urban area of Fargo-Moorhead. The region is known for its parks, retail centers and an interest in music, theater and the creative arts. Major industries include agriculture, agri-business, healthcare, tourism and manufacturing.
The president serves as chief executive officer responsible for leading the faculty, staff, and students in fulfilling the college's mission. Educational policies are jointly determined through participation of faculty, students, and administration, and in conformance with system board policies. The president reports to the system chancellor. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is comprised of seven state universities and 24 community, technical, and comprehensive community and technical colleges. The president of the college will serve on the system's Leadership Council and will contribute to the governance of the system.
