From the 2000s
I have many great memories of M State. I was involved in choir and private voice lessons. I also enjoyed participating in the Madrigal dinners. The spring break choir trip to Hawaii in 2003 and the Europe trip with Mr. Nikolas' class in spring 2004 were wonderful opportunities. Currently I sing with the M State Chamber Chorale under the direction of Teresa Ashworth. Jenna Thompson - AA - 2004 Underwood, Minn.
I was fortunate to have a very positive experience at M State - Falls. The opportunities provided by the passionate and dedicated faculty allowed me to become the professional I am today. I'm especially grateful to the Music department for its student-focused curriculum and tireless commitment to the development of the whole student. Thank you for your inspirational leadership. I would not be where I am today without you! Joe Osowski - Associate of Arts- 2003 Brooklyn Center, Minn.
M State - Fergus Falls will always be my second home. The people that I met and all I learned there have truly changed my life. As a music major, I had the privilege of singing in the choir under the direction of Teresa Ashworth. She brought my appreciation for music to a higher level. I also participated in the M State theatre program which helped me discover my love for the stage. Stefanie Gerhardson was and still is a wonderful mentor - without her I may not be doing theatre today. I would not be where I am today without the guidance of my M State instructors and the experiences and challenges they offered me. James Stenger - Associate of Arts - 2010 current student at MSUM, Moorhead, Minn.
I reminisce frequently about my time spent at M State, especially in the music and theater departments. I was given many opportunities to grow as an actor in productions such as: "Camelot," "Noises Off," "Godspell" and "The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged."
Many thanks to Stefanie Gerhardson for allowing me to experience all types of theater. Those memories are simply unforgettable. I also grew immensely as a musician while studying under Teresa Ashworth. I took voice lessons and sang in choir and voice ensemble all four semesters at M State. My voice morphed into this incredible "thing" while I studied with Mrs. Ashworth. I can't describe how much my voice matured, grew and thrived. There are no words to describe how much I miss working with her. She has this amazing gift that she openly shares with all her students. She will work you hard, but the outcome is astonishing. I credit much of my success at NDSU to Mrs. Ashworth and the work ethic she instilled in me. The fine arts department at M State - Fergus Falls is truly something special. I frequently sing the praises of the M State opportunities to my current professors and friends! During my final semester at M State I enrolled in Humanities 1120, Culture of Italy, in which we studied Italian art, music and literature. Then we toured Italy for two weeks, exploring Milan, Venice, Florence, Orvieto and Rome. It is one of my fondest memories. Katie Strom - Associate of Fine Arts - 2010 current student at NDSU, Fargo, N.D.
Attending MSCTC was a great experience. I was able to get most of my prerequisites met with the added benefit of small class sizes and helpful professors. The knowledge I gained helped prepare me for the rigors of obtaining my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of North Dakota. A highlight was definitely the humanities class trip to Ireland, England, and Wales! Paula Barry - Associate of Arts and AS, Biological Sciences - 2007 Port Angeles, Wash.
While an orientation counselor, during registration, our skit had stated, "These are the best years of your life." Little did I know this was more than true. I have never found such an opportunity to grow, be a leader and an influence on others! Tami (Ludden) Johnson - AA - 2003 Fargo, N.D.
I enjoyed everything I did and everyone I met while going to FFCC. Sure am proud to say I am a SPARTAN!!! Jason Kral - AA - 2000 Yankton, S.D.
Favorite memory . . . Going to Europe with FFCC. I truly enjoyed all my instructors. Jean McKenzie was the best. Angela Krause Nelson - AA - 2000 Fergus Falls, Minn.
Winning the Region 13 Baseball Championship my last year at Fergus. Chris Shea - AA - 2004 Evansville, Minn.
It was a nice school. I enjoyed being a member of the Spartan football team, as the kicker, even though I did not play football in high school. Jesse Schuett - 2008 Fergus Falls, Minn.
Spartan basketball!! Amelia Hoffmann - AA- 2004 Fergus Falls, Minn.
It was at Fergus Falls Community College (as it was named in 2001-2003 when I was there) where I fully realized I wanted to pursue a degree in psychology. That choice was one of the best choices of my life as I am now less than two years from obtaining my PhD in psychology/neuropsychology at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Justin Boseck - AA - 2003 Muncie, Ind.
Fergus Falls was a great transition from high school to college. It was small enough to get to know people but big enough to realize that you were in college. Melissa Harthun - AA - 2005 Dent, Minn.
I was uncertain what I was going to major in until I took a personal finance class at FFCC. I loved that class, and I knew from that moment forward finance was what I wanted to learn about and pursue as a career. Amy Niehoff Thieschafer - AA - 2003 Sauk Centre, Minn.
My FFCC experience was wonderful all around. Some of my best friends are ones I made at FFCC. Many of my family members attended FFCC as well, so I am proud to share the tradition. Through all my classroom experiences at FFCC and my transfer institution, Mr. Nikolas is still the best instructor I have had, "The Duke of Monmouth!!" Coach Bothwell was a huge inspiration to me while playing baseball. He taught us that as athletes, we don't just play the game, we need to "love the game." Marcus Zitzow - AA - 2002 Perham, Minn.
I was the first Presidential Scholar winner. We were the NJCAA National Champs in basketball - awesome memories that season. I had some really awesome teachers that I am still in touch with … Ann Williams, Ann Rotto, Roberta Egersdorf, Mrs. Pugh … Great staff. I Love FFCC! Such wonderful friends and staff there. What a great school! Jessica Draper Huebner - AA - 2001 Donnelly, Minn.
I don't really have any "stories," but I will say that I enjoyed my time at FFCC. The counselors were WONDERFUL, along with many other staff (including Adele Glynn, Robert Anderson, Christi Dickey and Ann Nelson). I also particularly enjoyed my teachers (a few that I remember well: Marilyn Swedberg, Arlin Nikolas and Jean McKenzie). Thanks for a great start to my college career and life experiences. Sarah Rach-Sovich - AA - 2003 Verndale, Minn.
I really appreciated the smaller class sizes. I feel I learned more in my classes at Fergus Falls than in quite a few classes at my four-year university. My favorite instructor at Fergus was Louise Pugh. She has a great approach to teaching. Brian Scheer - AA - 2004 Ottertail, Minn.
My favorite memories come from the travel abroad trip I went on. It was a great opportunity I wouldn't have had otherwise. I am very grateful to Mr. Nikolas for all of his planning, wisdom and interesting stories. Brittney Knick - AA - 2007 Fergus Falls, Minn.
At M - State Fergus Falls I felt like I was part of a big family, my professors cared about my experiences there, and their own exuberance for teaching was infectious! I loved my classes! Laura Brickzin - AA - 2004 Pelican Rapids, Minn.
My memories are in choir with Teresa Ashworth. Her inspiration was what set me out on my journey to become a music educator. I will forever be thankful for all she taught me and all the joy I found in her classes. Laura Odden - AA - 2004 Milaca, Minn.
The best memories I have of MSCTC are Mr. Nikolas' history classes. He made the lectures come to life. Not only were his classes like watching a "mini- play," they kept me interested from start to finish. I will always take his classes with me wherever I go. Thanks Mr. Nikolas, You are an amazing instructor! Laura Hohman - AA - 2006 Great Falls, Mont.
