The Detroit Lakes Area College Foundation has a board of highly professional individuals. It has been exciting with such enthusiastic board members with so much
energy.
In April of 2007, it was all a bit of a mystery to how this new Foundation would look in a year. By summer the existing board voted in 7 new members to have a "dozen"
on the Board. Throughout the year there were a few resignations and a few more voted in to bring the total up to 13, the highest count yet.
The 2008-2009 Development Plan is to grow the Board to 18 adding to the expertise and experience already obvious; create a scholarship to present from the Alumni Association;
have a first ever Community Campaign in the fall as well as a dinner in February; and organize scholarship recognition in the spring for the scholarship recipients.
A Faculty Staff Campaign was conducted in November 2007 and brought in $5,070 and in November, 2008 bringing in $4,711.. In January 2008 a Board Campaign was conducted bringing
in $1,900 and in November, 2008 bringing in $1.550.. An "Evening in Venice" was organized and held in February 2008 bridging the former Founders 500 with the new Detroit
Lakes Area College Foundation. Just under a hundred people attended the meal. The authentic Italian meal was cooked by volunteer Tim Gordon who was assisted by faculty and staff.
Alums were featured in person and on a video which was created by Randy Cadwell.
Committees have been active and working on fundraising, scholarship selections, recruiting board members, implementing an alumni association, and public relations with
technology. An investment Committee is also being established. There is interest in other areas such as housing, athletics, and the arts, so there is room for growth!
Hats off to the DLACF Board for their hard work!
