eCampus in the High School

The eCampus in the High School program offers online college-level courses to Minnesota high school students. The program is a partnership with participating high schools, Lakes Country Service Cooperative and Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

1. How are eCampus in the High School courses delivered?
The eCampus courses are delivered online to participating high school students by an M State instructor. Daily, reliable Internet access is required. A PC computer format is preferred. Courses are delivered through the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) platform and are conducted in an asynchronous format.

2. What are the special features of eCampus in the High School?
Special program features include online delivery of college courses to high school students in their high school setting, contracted tuition, college and high school transcripts, online orientation, online tutoring, a designated key contact at each high school, access to a college academic advisor, and a seamless, customized application and registration process. These features allow for the offering of technical education courses and general education courses in the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC).

Fall 2014

  • Anatomy & Physiology I
  • Anatomy and Physiology II

  • Principals of Nutrition
  • Rock and Pop Music
  • World Geography
  • Writing About Literature

Course enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Final offerings are determined by enrollment. Insufficient enrollment in a course may lead to a course cancellation.

4. What are the responsibilities of the high school with students participating in eCampus in the High School?
The responsibilities of participating high schools include:

  • Initiate and complete the application for admission, Accuplacer assessment and registration of participating students
  • Provide enrolled students with an instructional period with access to a networked computer.
  • Provide a key contact person, payment of tuition, and the purchase and provision of course required books and/or resources.

5. What is the cost of a course from the eCampus in the High School Program?
For the 2014‐2015 school year:

2 credit course will cost approximately $332.00 per student.
3 credit course will cost approximately $499.00 per student.
4 credit course will cost approximately $665.00 per student.

Textbook costs are additional and school districts are responsible for those costs.

The school district becomes obligated to pay the tuition for a student unless the student officially drops the class 7 calendar days before the class begins.

Fall 2014 courses begin September 2; Spring 2015 courses begin January 12.

6. What are the student eligibility requirements for eCampus in the High School?
High school juniors and seniors are eligible for the eCampus in the High School Program.
Required GPA: Seniors - 2.8 and Juniors - 3.2

Students must also meeting our Accuplacer assessment test score requirements:Students with an ACT Reading sub score of 21 or ACT English sub score of 18 and ACT Algebra sub score of 22 may enroll without taking the Accuplacer assessment.

**Math test scores are required only for those students taking college algebra. Students who do not meet the eligibility requirements due to extenuating circumstances may be considered for participation in the program if recommended by their high school administration and approved by the program at least one month in advance of the term start.

7. How do students apply and register for eCampus in High School?
When high schools are ready for students to apply, simply contact us at echs@minnesota.edu or call 1-888-696-7282 and ask for Erin Warren, who will begin the process with your school. eCampus in the High School requires a one-page application process for all students. In addition, students will not have to apply again to eCampus in the High School if they are in the M State system though concurrent enrollment. M State will complete all of the registration processing for the high schools.

8. What is the timeline for eCampus in the High School?
October 1 - begin application and assessment process for spring semester.

October 15 - begin submitting course registrations for spring semester.

December 1 - begin application and assessment process for fall semester.

February 15 - begin submitting course registrations for spring semester.

Students who need testing to meet the eligibility requirements are strongly encouraged to do so by these dates.

We encourage early registrations for the interests of all parties involved. If a student wants to drop a course (drop without a W on their transcript) the high school must notify the program by email to echs@minnesota.edu by 11:59 p.m. on or before the 5th day of the class. {Please note that the student drop/add date is later than the date when school districts become financially responsible to pay for a registered seat. High schools are financially responsible *7 days* before the start of the course.}

9. What students typically fit well with eCampus in the High School?
Online courses can be a good fit for many students. Students who prefer face‐to‐face interaction and/or those students who do not like using technology as a tool in the learning process do not typically present a good fit for online courses. Successful online students typically are self‐motivated, responsible, comfortable adhering to facility driven deadlines, committed to spending hours outside of school on their online courses, interested in using technology as a learning tool, and able to manage their time effectively. Students must be prepared to devote adequate study/course work time outside of their high school day.
