M State's 17-credit certificate in American Sign Language Studies provides basic training in ASL and an understanding of Deaf Culture. While the program does not prepare students to be interpreters, it will enable students to strengthen their ASL skills for communicating with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in:
Graduates can continue their education in M State's AAS degree in Sign Language Interpreter Preparation, which prepares students to work as interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
American Sign Language Studies Certificate
The American Sign Language (ASL) Studies certificate provides students with a basic knowledge of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture. The curriculum provides a foundation for entry into a career in a deafness-related field and prepares students for continued educational studies in more advanced preparation for ASL interpreter certification. This program does not prepare students to become interpreters.
