Build the foundational math and science skills that will help you prepare for a successful career in one of the many specialties in the exciting and expanding field of engineering.

Engineering

M State's 60-credit Engineering AS degree, offered on our Moorhead campus, is designed for students who intend to continue their education and earn a bachelor's degree in engineering at a four-year college or university. Our partnership with North Dakota State University allows graduates to transfer into any of NDSU's eight engineering programs, and earning an AS degree at M State means you will have completed the general education courses required by NDSU.

The curriculum for our Engineering degree includes courses in engineering, math, chemistry, physics and general education. Our higher-level math and science classes average 15-25 students and are taught by instructors with master's degrees, so you benefit from the individualized attention of your instructors.

Here’s what you’ll learn

  • Demonstrate an understanding of scientifictheories and the scientific method
  • Formulate and test hypotheses
  • Collect, organize, analyze and interpret experimental data, and perform statistical and graphic analyses
  • Use algebra, trigonometry and calculus to analyze equations of physics and chemistry and solve problems
  • Analyze physics word problems, translate them to mathematical forms, solve them and communicate the results in writing
  • Set up laboratory equipment to perform experiments using schematic drawings
  • Demonstrate knowledge of mathematical and logical modes of thinking
  • Gather factual information and apply it to a given problem

Articulation

M State's Engineering program has articulation agreements with North Dakota State University and St. Cloud State University. Graduates from M State's program can transfer into NDSU's bachelor degree programs in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and SCSU's bachelor program in Eletrical Engineering.

Articulation agreements ensure that students completing specified coursework or degree programs at M State will transfer into designated programs at partner universities/colleges per the terms of the agreement. This cooperative effort eliminates or minimizes the questions and confusion that sometimes accompany transfer and allows our students to be confident that their degree from M State will satisfy a substantive portion of the completion requirements for the bachelor's degree at the university/college they will be attending.
