As a human resources professional, you’ll support and empower your employer’s most valuable resources: its employees.
M State offers two degree options that will prepare you for a career or for further study in the rewarding and growing field of human resources. We offer the only human resources associate degree programs in Minnesota that can be completed online, on our Moorhead campus or as a combination of online and on-campus courses.
Human resources professionals provide support to their companies and their employees in a variety of ways including communication with employees, data record keeping, administration of policies, employer/labor relations, recruiting and training new employees, and administration of wages and benefits.
Graduates of our Human Resources AAS degree program are prepared to be hired in entry- and mid-level positions as a human relations specialist. The Human Resources AS degree program is designed for students intending to transfer to four-year colleges and universities and continue their education in human resources. Both programs are 60 credits.

Members of the Student Human Resource Organization on M State's Moorhead campus have earned national recognition for their chapter's activities.
The Minnesota State Community and Technical College Student Human Resource Organization has received the 2017-18 national Merit Chapter designation for the superior growth and development opportunities it provides to its student members.
The designation is awarded by the national Society for Human Resource Management to outstanding chapters. The merit program recognizes achievement in the areas of professional operation of the chapter, professional development of members, support of the profession and partnership with SHRM.
M State's Student Human Resource Organization, based on the Moorhead campus, has been affiliated with SHRM since 2006. The organization currently has 15 members and is advised by Human Resource faculty member Loren Haagenson.
Last year the group had the opportunity to compete at the State HR Student Competition, fundraise for student scholarships, network with other HR professionals, volunteer at the campus job fair and complete a company visit.
The national organization is the largest in the world devoted to human resource management, representing more than 275,000 professional and 20,000 student members in more than 160 countries.
HRSO members include (left to right) Carina Martinez, Maria Prouty, Krista Anderson, Keith Ward, Yoana Diaz, Kelsey Powers and advisor Loren Haagenson.
