Herdina Academy for the Construction Trades

The Herdina Academy for the Construction Trades is a two-week course where high school students can experience the construction industry. Students spend time building sheds, exploring career opportunities and working side-by-side with contractors. The course is open to North Dakota and Minnesota high school students ages 15 and older.

The 2018 Trades Academy is June 4-15 at Minnesota State Community and Technical College - Moorhead campus. Cost is $25 per student (make checks payable to Minnesota State Community and Technical College).

Each attendee has the option of earning three college credits. Students work with industry professionals in specialized fields and are supervised by qualified high school instructors. Click here for photo highlights from last year's Herdina Academy! 2018 will be the academy's 21st year.

Skill set introduction includes:

  • Forming and pouring concrete
  • Framing
  • Siding and roofing
  • Installation of electrical and plumbing
  • Installation of doors and windows
  • Hanging and finishing drywall
  • Surveying and site layout
  • Operating small construction equipment.

Scrubs Camp in Partnership with MSUM

Scrubs Camp - July 8-13

Minnesota State University Moorhead will host a five-night, six-day camp for students going into grades 9-12. This residential camp experience offers high school students an opportunity to explore health science professions through engaging, hands-on activities.

For the third year in a row, MSUM Scrubs Campers will spend two full days (Tuesday and Wednesday, July 10-11) on M State's Moorhead campus rotating through health science/health care sessions in Dental, Nursing, Surgical Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, Biology, Mental Health and Physical Fitness. Eventide also will be at M State both days to facilitate training sessions on dementia.
