Assessment Testing

M State uses the Accuplacer assessment to help you prepare an academic plan that fits your skill levels in reading, writing and mathematics. This assessment allows us to place you in the level of courses where you are most likely to succeed.

You are required to take the Accuplacer assessment before registering for classes unless you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You have completed college-level coursework in English or mathematics.
  • Your ACT score meets the college's standards in English, reading and mathematics.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Accuplacer and ACT scores are valid for two years for mathematics and three years for reading and English.

If you have earned an AA or AS degree but have not completed the math requirements for a new degree or program, you will need to take the Accuplacer math exam. There is no charge for the first Accuplacer assessment, but there may be a nominal retest fee. Only one retest is allowed per academic year.

As an eCampus student there are three ways to take your Accuplacer assessment test.

  • The guidelines for a Proctor are on the top of the Assessment Test Request Form. This form needs to be submitted to M State five days before you plan to take the Accuplacer assessment test.
  • When taking the Accuplacer assessment at a MnSCU location you must contact the Assessment Test Coordinator at the location you choose. Your test scores will automatically load into our system once you have completed the assessment.
