Description: This introductory class will focus on the Internet marketing strategy of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It will cover how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

  1. Identify the parts of a hyperlink that a search engine measures when valuing a link on a page.
  2. Identify the criteria used in keyword selection.
  3. Classify intended audience and content.
  4. Examine how search engines works.
  5. Promote a site to increase the number of backlinks.
  6. Determine relevance to a specific keyword on image search engines.
  7. Examine organic search.
  8. Formulate the basics of keyword strategy.
  9. Contrast SEM and SEO.
  10. Optimize keywords for internal site links.
