||This course introduces concepts of teamwork and collaboration, safety, quality improvement, professional identity and behavior, patient-centered and relationship-centered care, nursing judgment, evidence-based practice, managing care of the individual patient, informatics and technology. An introduction to the nursing process provides a beginning framework for decision-making related to common health problems of adults and older adults. Principles of pathophysiology, nutrition and pharmacology are applied to basic health care concepts. A lab component includes focused assessments and basic nursing skills that support course concepts.

- List the major classifications of medications, common medications within each classification, potential and actual complications, contraindications and rationales for medication administration for common health problems.
- Explain polypharmacy and the considerations that should be made when administering medications to older adults.
- Identify common health problems in the adult population.
- Apply knowledge of pharmacology to the care of adult patients with common health problems.
- Apply knowledge of pathophysiology to the care of adult patients with common health problems.
- Apply knowledge of nutrition to the care of adult patients with common health problems.
- Choose evidenced-based interventions within an established plan of care that address potential or actual complications experienced by the adult patient with common health problems.
- Summarize the importance of nutrition to facilitate healthy aging.

- Demonstrate basic evidence-based nursing skills using proper techniques and measures to ensure safety for the patient and nurse.
