Go, Big Blue!

Spartan team sports at M State offer exciting action for both players and spectators. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, M State offers womens intercollegiate volleyball, golf, basketball and softball and mens intercollegiate football, golf, basketball and baseball.

Intercollegiate teams are based on the Fergus Falls campus and are open to participation by all qualifying M State students.

A growing college-wide intramural program offers more ways to be a Spartan with opportunities to participate in bowling, basketball, soccer, volleyball and ping pong.

Athletes honored for academic accomplishments

Four M State student athletes have been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their academic achievements during the 2012-13 academic year.

As a freshman she was selected Second Team All-Division. In softball she was selected Second Team All-Division during her freshman year. Christine will graduate from M State this spring and plans to attend M State in Moorhead in the Dental Hygiene program.

Male Student Athlete of the Year - Lucas Gervais

Lucas is a sophomore from Fergus Falls and has played golf at M State for two years. In the fall, Lucas led the Spartans to their second consecutive MCAC and Region 13 championships. At the same event, he was crowned the individual champion, beating the field by an eight-shot margin. He won medalist honors at five different events during the season. Lucas and the Spartans will return to New York in June to defend their NJCAA Division 3 National Championship, where Lucas was named First Team All-American a year ago. Lucas plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha on a golf scholarship.

Coaches Awards

The Spartans also awarded their Coaches Awards, presented to one male and one female who demonstrate what it takes to be a Spartan.

The female Coaches Award went to sophomore Megan Cole, a sophomore from New York Mills who participated in basketball and softball.

The male Coaches Award went to Arne Robertson. Arne is not a student athlete but attends almost every home game, shoots video and takes pictures for the M State website.
