Jason Retzlaff (218) 736-1618
Coach Retzlaff is in his 10th season as head coach of the Spartan golf teams. A Spartan alumnus, he received his Associate in Arts degree at M State and graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees from North Dakota State University.
During the past decade, the Spartans have become a national power on the NJCAA golf scene. In 2011-12, the Spartans won the NJCAA Division III National Championship by 16 strokes. The following season, the Spartans finished fourth in the nation, only six shots shy of repeating. M State won back-to-back men's MCAC and Region XIII championships in 2011 and 2012. Retzlaff was named the Region XIII Coach of the Year both years and 2012 NJCAA Division III National Coach of the Tournament. Retzlaff has coached 15 players who have competed at the national level and three All-Americans.
He resides in Fergus Falls with his wife, Stephanie.
Coach Haukos is in his ninth year as Spartan assistant golf coach. His golf resume includes competing for Fergus Falls High School in 1975. He spent 21 years in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a cryptologist, and returned to Fergus Falls to continue his education after retiring from military service in 2001. Haukos was a member of the Spartan golf team in 2002 and 2004 and was given the Spirit award by his teammates.
Haukos has been an integral part of the program's success throughout the years. His love of golf and desire to work with young people have made him indispensable to the Spartan golf program.
He is a Fergus Falls native and is employed as an information technology specialist at M State.
Coach Sletten is in his fifth year as assistant golf coach for the Spartans and one of the outstanding local golf talents in the area. While playing for Underwood High School, he was a three-time Minnesota All-State selection and won the 1997 Class A State Championship. He continued his golf career at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., where he qualified for two NCAA Division II National Championships. He also played for one year on the Dakota Tour.
Sletten's experience and knowledge of golf are a huge asset to the Spartan golf program.
Sletten resides in Underwood with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Memphis. He is assistant vice president and office manager at Gate City Bank in Fergus Falls.
Coach Shuck is in his second year as a member of the Spartan coaching staff. He brings a phenomenal golf resume to the program. A 1983 graduate of Fergus Falls High School, Brian attended M State, where he played golf and qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in 1984 and 1985. He transferred to Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he was a golf All-American, earning medalist honors in the regional championship and a third national tournament appearance. Shuck continues to stay active in state and local golf tournaments as one of the area's premier players and is a three-time winner of the Pebble Lake Golf Course Club Championship.
Shuck resides in Elbow Lake and manages the local agricultural construction branch office for Gateway Building Systems of Fargo.
