Jason Retzlaff is in his 11th season as head coach of the Spartan golf team.During his tenure, the Spartans have become a national power on the NJCAA golf scene, finishing in the top five nationally for three consecutive seasons.
In 2012 the Spartans won the NJCAA Division III National Championship by 16 strokes, and a year ago the Spartans finished fifth in the nation. The Spartans have also won three straight men's MCAC and Region XIII Championships.
Jason was named Region XIII Coach of the Year in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and in 2012 he was honored as NJCAA Division III National Coach of the Tournament. He has coached 16 men and women golfers who have competed at the national level, including three All-Americans. In the last two seasons, the Spartans have had four players move on to four-year golf programs, including two at the Division I level.
Jason resides in Fergus Falls with his wife, Stephanie. A Spartan alumnus, he received his associate in arts degree at M State and graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees from North Dakota State University.
Jeff Haukos is in his 10th year as assistant golf coach for the Spartans. His golf resume includes competing for Fergus Falls High School in 1975. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years as a cryptologist, retiring from the service in 2001 and returning to Fergus Falls to continue his education at M State. He was a member of the Spartan golf team in 2002 and 2004 and was given the Spirit award by his teammates.
Jeff has been an integral part of the program's success throughout the years. His love of golf and desire to work with young people have made him an indispensable part of the Spartan golf program.
He is employed as an information technical specialist at M State.
Aaron Sletten is in his sixth year as an assistant golf coach for the Spartans. One of the outstanding local golf talents in the area, he was a three-time All-State selection and won the 1997 Class A State Championship while competing for Underwood High School. He continued his golf career at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., where he qualified for two NCAA Division II National Championships. Aaron also played for one year on the Dakota Tour.
Aaron's experience and knowledge of golf are a huge asset to the Spartan golf program.
Aaron resides in Underwood with his wife, Jennifer, and children, Memphis and Temprance. He is the assistant vice president and office manager at Gate City Bank in Fergus Falls.
Adam Evavold is in his first year as an assistant golf coach for the Spartans. Adam grew up playing golf in Fergus Falls and was a four-year letter winner for the Fergus Falls High School golf team. After receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2009, Adam worked as the assistant golf pro at the Pebble Lake Golf Club for two seasons. In this role he had the opportunity to expand his knowledge of the game and gain experience in swing instruction. He hopes to be able to pass on his knowledge and experience to Spartan golfers and help them advance to the next level.
Adam is the operations manager for Lakes Area Community Healthplan in Fergus Falls, where he lives with his wife, Kelsey.
