Online Orientation
Project Purpose
To acquire a product that will host an online orientation for new and returning students to M State. The online orientation will serve as a piece of the student onboarding process that will create an experience for students, whether land-based, online or a combination of both.
Deliverables
A functional online orientation with single sign on for students that features text, photos, and videos of all four M State campuses that creates a positive experience for students in the on-boarding process.

- Collaborate with Business Services to create RFP, review proposals, select and contract with vendor
- Create and launch online orientation experience for new and returning students (goal - Spring 2023 launch)
- Complement registration events and Spartan Welcome Days
- Assemble a team of stakeholders/leaders to review & rate responses to RFP for vendor selection

- Hiring of additional staff
- Requiring adjustments to admission and registration process, Spartan Welcome Days events
Effectiveness Measures
- Percentage of new and returning students that complete online orientation
- Compare student success rate of those who complete online orientation vs. those that partially completed and those that did not complete in collaboration with Institutional Effectiveness
- Create a student feedback survey to be completed at end/completion of online orientation
Constraints
- Budget (beyond the initial $100,000 allocation)
- Contracting/software vetting process at MinnState
- Distance between campuses for vendor work
Financial Impact
- Increase in applicant to registered/attending student status, creating tuition, fee and allocation revenue
- Increase in student retention, creating tuition, fee, and allocation revenue
Summary of Results
The online orientation was implemented fall 2023 for students to start using. The information and link was added to www.minnesota.edu/know-before-you-go.
