Description
This course will provide knowledge of and training in electrical energy machines and devices used in an advanced practice esthetics setting, including but not limited to radio frequency, galvanic current, high frequency, ultrasound, microcurrent, skin needling and LED light therapy. Students will receive training in electrical and light theory, and advanced histology of the skin.
Competencies
- Discuss the indications and contraindications involved with utilization of the machines.
- Establish and use safety guidelines for estheticians.
- Name the major functions of the skin.
- Identify various Fitzpatrick skin types and Glogau and Rubin classifications.
- List the advantages of LED light therapy.
- Discuss the use of ultrasonic devices.
- Discuss the different microcurrent treatments.
- Describe the steps used with electrodesiccation devices.
- Identify skin needling procedures and outcomes.
- Discuss nutrition and its relation to skin care.
- Discuss common laser and light therapy treatments for facial rejuvenation.
- Explain common uses of LED light therapy.
- Discuss the basic types of electrolysis.
