"I’ve never been much of a book person; I like hands-on stuff. A line worker I knew talked about this program at M State and I liked the sound of it. The teachers are really good to us. In the situations we’re in, you can put people in danger, so if you mess up in class, they’ll let you know – and that’s the way it’s got to be, but they’re always willing to help you. They’ll come in early, they’ll stay late, it’s pretty nice. And the staff are really helpful, too. Any time I’ve had a problem and gone to the library or the front desk, they’ve just jumped right up and helped me.
I’ve learned a lot about how to work and interact with other people and crews. A lot of the guys and I are living in the same rental place and we’re figuring life out together, figuring out how to live on our own. I’m in my second year of the program now and I feel ready to get out there. I plan to stick around Minnesota for my apprenticeship and to attend a couple of meet-and-greets to make job connections."
