"As a single mother, I wanted a smaller community college where I could work within my schedule. I live in Fargo and chose to come to M State in Moorhead. M State’s very good; all the teachers are very good – personable and patient.
I’m from Liberia, in West Africa. I started at M State in 2017 with ELL (English Language Learners) classes, which were helpful. I got pregnant in 2019, took a break, and came back in 2024, after my baby turned 5.
I tell my friends who have come here as immigrants that it doesn’t have anything to do with age, it just takes focus. I tell them it’s good to pursue a degree in an area you know you are good at. I’ve worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and developed a passion for it, so I decided to pursue nursing at a higher level. When I was in my country, I practiced midwifery, and that’s what I want to do after I graduate from M State."
