Description
This course prepares students to take the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Review of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II coding is an integral part of this course. Practice examinations will be taken under timed conditions. The course assists the student in establishing a personal plan for continued development in preparation for the certification examination. This course also prepares students to take other nationally recognized coding examinations.

- Develop a personal plan for preparation for the certification examination.
- Identify the testing requirements by the American Academy of Professional Coders.
- Explain the components of the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination.
- Complete pre-test practice examinations.
- Review anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and related terminology of organ systems of the human body.
- Review appropriate assignment of CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes.
- Review appropriate assignment of modifiers with procedure codes.
- Review appropriate assignment of Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II codes.
- Review appropriate assignment of current International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes.
- Review Official Outpatient Guidelines for Coding and Reporting of diagnoses.
- Complete post-test practice examination.
- Review guidelines for coding and reporting procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical reimbursement requirements.
