Academic advising at M State is an educational partnership. You'll work with advisors to develop a plan to achieve your academic and career goals while making informed and increasingly independent decisions.

M State advisors strive to empower you to become engaged in your own academic success.

Who is my advisor?

M State has program faculty advisors and academic advisors. You will be assigned an advisor based on your program of study. You can easily find your advisor's name on your SpartanNet homepage.

Meeting with your advisor

Advisors will help you with:

  • Academic planning based on your educational goals
  • Interpreting your degree audit
  • Tips on how to be a successful college student
  • Connecting to tutoring, counseling and accessibility resources
  • Transfer questions and resources
  • Navigating college

To maximize academic advising:

  • Become familiar with your program plan (it's listed on your program page)
  • Review your degree audit to see which courses you need to complete your degree
  • Search the class schedule to select courses you'd like to take
  • Examine your academic interests and clarify your career goals before and during your appointment
  • Research transfer college options
  • Prepare questions to ask at your appointment
  • Schedule and keep advising appointments

During the busiest times of the semester, academic advisors will meet with you on a first-come, first-serve drop-in or call-in basis. Advisors also are available throughout the semester for quick questions during designated drop-in/call-in times.

Academic Advisors
