M State offers programs in the accounting field both online and at the Moorhead campus. The range of program options allows M State to fit the needs of students with diverse career goals, from those who desire to prepare for immediate entry into the workforce to those with a goal of transferring and earning a four-year degree.

Career opportunities for accountants are broad, with employment in diverse businesses including public accounting firms, banks, health care, government agencies, non-profits and private businesses. 

Accounting AAS 60 credits - Moorhead and online

The Accounting AAS provides the knowledge and skills to examine, analyze, interpret and correct accounting data for the purpose of preparing financial statements, budgets, forecast accounting reports, payroll reports and federal income tax returns. The program also includes computerized accounting concepts.

Accounting AS 60 credits - Moorhead and online

The Accounting Transfer Pathway offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated accounting bachelor's degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the transfer pathway associate degree directly transfer and apply to designated bachelor's degree programs in a related field.

Accounting Clerk diploma 32 credits - Moorhead and online

Learn to perform routine calculating, journalizing, posting and verifying duties to maintain accounting records and to prepare payroll reports and federal tax returns. The program includes both manual and computerized accounting concepts and applications.

Payroll Specialist diploma 32 credits - Moorhead and online

This program provides the knowledge and skills necessary to perform routine calculating, journalizing, posting and verifying duties to maintain accounting records and prepare payroll reports and returns and employee records. Both manual and computerized accounting concepts and applications are included.
