Your success matters. We can help you succeed with academic support through tutoring services, career research and placement assistance, resume writing services and transfer resources.
M State offers professional and student tutoring online via our eTutoring platform as well as on our campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena.
We encourage you to stop by your campus Spartan Center. Whether you need a place to study, a bit of support on a homework assignment, or the opportunity to use a white board, this is the place for you. Our staff, faculty, and student mentors are eager to work with you and help you achieve academic success at M State!
Each of the campuses offers free workshops that are open to all students on topic such as time management, study skills, financial planning and how to read your DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) audit. M State is currently offering a pilot online writing tutor service, eTutoring. Any M State student with an online course has access to eTutoring.
How will students access eTutoring?eTutoring is available online within D2L Brightspace under "My Courses." eTutoring can be accessed in one of three ways: one-on-one eTutor appointments scheduled via Calendly, virtual walk-in appointments and via email. Once a student has accessed the eTutoring site, they can choose the option most convenient for them:
When is eTutoring available?
The eTutoring Program is an online resource for writing support that is funded through the Title III federal grant and part of the component three structure: Student Support and Success. As the number of online learners continues to grow, M State recognizes the need for student and academic services to address their specific needs. While we understand online tutoring might not be for everyone, we encourage you to give it a try. If you live near an M State campus, you are also welcome to use the tutoring services available in the Spartan Centers.
For assistance learning how to utilize this service, review the information and tutorial videos available within D2L Brightspace eTutoring page or contact Jennifer Aranda at email@example.com or 218.299.6932.
If you need assistance learning to navigate an online course, log into your D2L site, look at the top left drop-down menu for "Academic Resources," click on that drop-down arrow and locate "How to Use D2L Brightspace." This overview will guide you and provide tutorials to get you comfortable with navigating your online course. If you're in need of additional assistance, we recommend you stop by your campus Spartan Center or speak with your instructor.
Online students can visit any campus location that is convenient. In addition, M State offers free online tutoring to all students. The free online tutoring services are available any day, at any time through Smarthinking. Subject areas that are supported include accounting, English, economics, biology, chemistry, math and physics. Bilingual math, finance and Spanish tutoring are also offered.
To access Smarthinking, log in to your D2L account, click on the drop-down menu labeled "Academic Resources" and click Smarthinking. This will automatically direct you to the academic support services provided through Smarthinking. If you need assistance learning how to utilize this service, please visit with a tutor in the Spartan Center, or review the information and tutorial videos available on the Smarthinking website.
If you have difficulty accessing Smarthinking or need additional minutes of tutoring support, please email Barbara LaPlante for assistance.
