About this program

Web development provides students with the opportunity to use both creative and technical skills. Students in the Web Development program will learn to develop and maintain customer-friendly interactive websites using the most sophisticated tools currently available. Students will gain a strong understanding, appreciation and practical knowledge of the processes involved in building a successful website and e-commerce storefront. The courses in the Web Development certificate are aligned with the CIW (Certified Internet Webmaster) Master Designer certification.
 

Program outcomes

1. Understand and participate in structured development life cycle tasks of an information system from an initial request through implementation and system operation.
2. Use problem-solving strategies to think critically and to develop effective Web solutions.
3. Create Web applications utilizing appropriate design tools.
4. Identify and close gaps between ones knowledge and skills and those required by the situation.
5. Communicate effectively with people inside the corporation as well as external customers using a variety of communication methods including writing (paper and email), speaking and listening to communicate project status, document given projects, programs and end user materials.

The internet is having a profound impact on society and the global economy, and its tremendous expansion has created a high demand for employees with working knowledge of web-related technologies and languages. Graduates of the Web Development program have expanding employment opportunities in the development and management of websites for individuals, small businesses and corporations. Program graduates will have skills in marketing, design, hardware, general software and communications, and they will be able to offer employers the creative, technical and customer service skills needed to maintain accessible and reliable websites that project a desired image.
