Description

This course provides the student with the skills necessary for the installation, maintenance and repair of residential electric/gas appliances.

Competencies

  1. Recognize electrical sources and construct circuits commonly found in gas appliances.
  2. Utilize safe practices while working with electricity.
  3. Demonstrate the correct use of electrical test equipment.
  4. Interpret the reading of electrical wiring diagrams.
  5. Utilize safe practices while working with natural gas or propane.
  6. Demonstrate the correct use of gas test equipment.
  7. Perform troubleshooting applications for gas and electric appliances.
  8. Outline the sequence of operation when working on electric or gas appliances.
  9. Demonstrate the ability to read electrical wiring diagrams.
  10. Assess gas/electrical control functions.
  11. Test ignition systems on gas appliances.
  12. Perform troubleshooting applications.
  13. Explain how gas water heaters operate and different gas (natural or propane) types.
  14. Explain types of gas ranges, ignition types and controls.
  15. Explain and demonstrate conventional gas furnaces.
  16. Explore and compare ventilation air for combustion of appliances.
  17. Compare high-efficiency gas furnaces.
  18. Describe and compare other gas appliances, including residential and commercial.
