Electrical Line Worker Technology

With a combination of classroom-based theory and hands-on practice at our 90-acre training facility, our Electrical Line Worker Technology program will give you the skills you need to start a successful career. The program also provides a solid foundation to build on if you choose to continue your studies at a four-year college or university.

Coursework covers all phases of power line construction and maintenance and is reviewed by an advisory board of regional industry representatives, ensuring you’re learning the skills needed by employers. You'll learn about electrical math, national electrical safety codes, construction of overhead and underground distribution systems, conductor applications, over-voltage and over-current protection, guying and pole grounding. 

You’ll gain hands-on experience in:

• Installing electrical structures and overhead and underground distribution systems
• Interpreting trade specifications and drawings
• Climbing and aerial rescue procedures
• Applying the National Electric Safety Code and professional safety practices such as First Aid and CPR
• Installing fusing, lightning protection devices, transformers and related equipment

The fall application period opens Sept. 1 for the following academic year.

Admission details

Once you've applied to M State, please send copies of your high school transcript and any official college transcripts (if applicable) to records@minnesota.edu.

Acceptance to M State does NOT guarantee a seat in the Electrical Line Worker Technology program. Seats are awarded based on acceptance date and time; M State processes documents in the order they are received.

Application review

M State will review applications beginning Nov. 1. Within 10 business days, M State will inform applicants if they've been admitted and/or placed on the waitlist.
