Description
This course explores the physical, mental, and social aspects of the use and abuse of drugs. Topics include history of use, classifications of drugs, and the effects of drug use on the family and society. Emphasis is placed on the role drugs have in our society and our responsibility in preventing abuse.

- Identify resources and strategies to refer and assist people with drug use problems.
- Analyze physical and psychological risk factors for chemical dependency and their effects on children/teenagers.
- Discuss community and school drug education programs.
- Describe the effects of drugs and alcohol during prenatal and postnatal development.
- Identify signs and symptoms in infants affected by drugs and alcohol.
- Explain how legal and illegal drugs affect the developmental process of a student.
