Description
This course introduces the emergency medical technician (EMT) student to emergency medical services (EMS) operations and patient care. During this course, students will have the opportunity to work under the direction of a preceptor with various health care industry entities to assist in the care of hospital and prehospital/ambulance patients.
Competencies
  1. Demonstrate appropriate care for life-threatening conditions, including providing care for adequate pulmonary ventilation, establishing and maintaining an open airway, controlling external bleeding, and recognizing and treating signs and symptoms of shock.
  2. Demonstrate defensive and emergency driving skills that are essential to quality patient care.
  3. Demonstrate Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant behavior.
  4. Communicate effectively as part of a health care team.
