Description

The objective of this course is to study the major theories of leadership in order for students to improve their ability to use the basic skills of leadership, as well as examine the various approaches to leadership. This course allows students to identify and evaluate contemporary leadership issues in today's complex society.

Competencies

  1. Describe the nature of leadership and assess the basic functions of the complexities of leadership.
  2. Explain the basic leadership theories and the relative advantages and disadvantages of the various leadership approaches.
  3. Apply leadership skills based on their preferred style(s) of leadership and situation.
  4. Articulate the rationale behind applying various leadership approaches.
  5. Recognize the use of different leadership approaches by others based on situation and locus of control.
  6. Apply the fundamentals of followership, peer interaction and teamwork to accomplish goals.
  7. Critically reflect on the viewpoints of leadership and examine frames of reference and perspectives.
