This course is designed for those who have a current business or aspire to create business opportunities. Students assess their skills, attitudes and behaviors related to entrepreneurial and innovative mindsets. Concepts and exercises focus on practical and repeatable processes and applications that identify unmet customer needs to generate ideas that become an innovation of value. Students create and present (pitch) business ideas. This course contains content and information on entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial thinking.

In this course, students experience real-world and hands-on activities needed to start a business venture. Students develop strategies, including talking with customers, partners, competitors and advisors that provide valuable input, as they explore the various facets of a business idea and how those facets interact to produce a working business model. Students who complete this course will be well-positioned to write a business plan and will be able to answer the question, "Will anyone other than you want your product or service?"

In this course, students who are operating a business or have a solid business model learn how to build a firm foundation for running and growing their business. Students develop a detailed business plan as well as present and pitch a business plan to entrepreneurial professionals. The focus of the course is on the financial, marketing and operational functions within a business needed for sustained growth and success.

This course will prepare the advanced practice esthetician student for the general theory exam, written practical exam and Minnesota laws and rules exam issued by the Minnesota State Board of Cosmetology. Additionally, the student will practice mock tests in preparation for skills certification. Advanced practice esthetician students will review their knowledge and skills in all theory and practical topics learned throughout their training. Completion of this course will help the student identify areas of weakness that need additional review prior to scheduling their state exams.

In this course, students will work in a licensed school salon to meet requirements stipulated by the State Board of Cosmetology. The course includes instruction in applied science and skills in skin analysis, client consultation, dermaplaning or a machine exfoliation service, chemical peels (alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, trichloroacetic acids and blended acid peels), electrical energy services (direct current, indirect current, sound energy and light energy), advanced facial treatments using lymphatic drainage and advanced extractions, skin needling, and infection control and safety procedures. Each student is required to complete a specific minimum number of clinical exercises as well as a minimum number of clinical hours to fulfill requirements set by the State Board of Cosmetology.

In this course, students learn about advanced skin care and techniques, including lymphatic drainage, advanced facials, advanced extractions and body treatments. Students' knowledge of specific body systems, including the cardiovascular, lymphatic and muscular systems, will assist in executing these advanced treatments. Specific massage manipulations and specialty products will be discussed to enhance the effectiveness of the procedures.

This course will provide practical knowledge and practice of exfoliation using advanced chemicals and devices, including but not limited to BHA chemical peels, AHA chemical peels, TCA chemical peels, crystal and diamond microdermabrasion, hydro dermabrasion and dermaplaning. Students will learn to recognize and treat skin conditions, conduct advanced consultations, and perform client charting and health screening. Students will understand wound healing as it relates to advanced esthetics and proper pre- and post-surgical at-home care. This class will cover training in advanced product chemistry and ingredients.

This course will provide knowledge of and training in electrical energy machines and devices used in an advanced practice esthetics setting, including but not limited to radio frequency, galvanic current, high frequency, ultrasound, microcurrent, skin needling and LED light therapy. Students will receive training in electrical and light theory, and advanced histology of the skin.

This course covers the basic information that the student will need to understand the fire protection career field. It will provide an overview of the firefighter selection process and assist in preparing the student for the competitive selection process. It will also provide additional information on fire protection careers other than firefighter. This course will cover the history of public fire protection; basic terminology; the chemistry, physics and behavior of fire; fire suppression; fire-based emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; fire prevention; and physical fitness training requirements.
