Engineering Machine Design Contest
9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 26, 2025
M State Moorhead Campus

M State will host high school students from the region for the Engineering Machine Design Contest, where students will design and build machines that connect STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), arts and creativity. The 2025 theme is Current of Creativity: Transforming Water Technology.
The contest provides an opportunity for students in grades 5-12 to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a collaborative and fun environment. Teams will design and build complex machines that use everyday objects to complete a simple task using multiple steps.
Teams are evaluated on team presentation, team journal and machine design and operation. As they build machines together, students will:
- Experience science, technology, engineering, math and creative arts
- Learn about teamwork, problem-solving and communication
- Enjoy engagement and a sense of belonging
Qualifying teams will advance to the Engineering Machine Design Championship April 25 at Waukesha County Technical College in Milwaukee. The contest aligns with the National Academy of Engineering's Grand Challenges and the Next Generation Science Standards.
