Minnesota Transfer Curriculum MnTC

What is the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC)?

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) is the basis for the general education requirements at institutions that are part of the Minnesota State system. Completion of the MnTC requires at least 40 credits and a specified number of courses or credits taken from each of the 10 MnTC goal areas. The MnTC must be completed with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

While each Minnesota State institution may have slight variations in the requirements for each goal area, any goal area that is completed at one Minnesota State institution is considered complete at all Minnesota State institutions. Individual courses transfer to other Minnesota State institutions in the goal area(s) assigned at the institution where it was taken. Any MnTC course offered at M State will transfer to other Minnesota State institutions in the goal area(s) designated by M State. Likewise, M State will transfer courses from other Minnesota State institutions based on the goal area(s) assigned by the institution where the course was taken.

Some courses are assigned in more than one MnTC goal area. These courses may be used to fulfill the requirements of each goal area to which they are assigned; however, the course credits are counted only once.

Listed below are the 10 goal areas of the MnTC and the minimum requirements for each. These requirements are for students who wish to complete either the MnTC or the Liberal Arts & Sciences AA degree. The MnTC and the overall AA degree must be completed with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Transfer courses with grades of A-D will be included in the GPA calculation for the MnTC. Refer to the Transferring To M State page for further detail on how D grades transfer to M State.
