M State to open high-tech Health Sciences Simulation Center

Body

M State is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, December 13 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the opening of a multidisciplinary Health Sciences Simulation Center on the college’s Moorhead campus.

The innovative center is the first of its kind in the region. It will bring together students from several different M State healthcare and emergency services programs, including nursing, phlebotomy, radiologic technology, criminal justice and others, for comprehensive training that replicates real-life scenarios in a high-tech simulation environment.

The 4,167-square-foot center features four hospital rooms, an emergency/surgery room, a long-term care/in-home healthcare room, de-briefing rooms, patient mannikins that can speak and allow students to practice skills such as needle and catheter insertion, and more.

“We’re excited to offer state-of-the-art learning experiences for our students that mirror the environment they will be working in,” says M State President Carrie Brimhall. “Our students will have an edge on other graduates and will be better prepared for their careers because of the simulations they will get to experience. The center promotes teamwork, with all students from across various health sciences programs working together just as they would in a workplace environment.”

Students from all four M State campuses will benefit from hands-on experience at the simulation center, starting this coming spring semester. The center is a key component of a broader collegewide project that brings the latest in healthcare education technologies to all four M State campuses: the Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Wadena campuses are being updated with new healthcare simulation equipment.

M State is a leader in allied healthcare education and workforce training in the region and is committed to helping healthcare workers develop the skills they need to meet the demands of today’s healthcare industry.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is free and open to the public, and all are welcome. Enter through Entrance Door S2 on the south side of the campus (at 1900 28th Avenue South in Moorhead) and follow signs to the Health Sciences Simulation Center, room E112.
