Spring band concert to feature Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome

Put a little extra spring in your step this spring season with an energy-fueled performance by the M State Concert Band and special guest, Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome.
A 12-piece band known for its horn-driven sound, lively stage performances and collaborations with school and community orchestras, Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome blends funk, soul and R&B with a touch of rock. It features male and female singers along with two trumpets, a trombone, a baritone, an alto and tenor sax, and a keyboard and drums.
“Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome is Fargo’s hottest classic rock horn band,” says James Iverson, M State music faculty and Concert Band director. “The group performs the best of the classic horn hits by bands including Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Earth Wind and Fire, and others. The band is led by Russ Peterson from Concordia College, who will also be performing as a soloist with the M State Concert Band.”
Under Iverson’s direction, the Concert Band will perform upbeat classics such as “Festive Overture,” by Dmitri Shostakovich, and “Overture to Candide,” by Leonard Bernstein. Post-Traumatic Funk Syndrome will perform jointly with the Concert Band on a Glenn Miller medley and “Vehicle,” by the Ides of March, and then will take the stage on their own to perform some of their favorite classic rock arrangements.
The concert will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, in Legacy Hall on M State’s Fergus Falls campus.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door for adults, and $5 for K-12 students. M State students and staff get in for free with their college ID. Advanced tickets are encouraged, as limited seating will be available. Tickets may be purchased online at mstate.universitytickets.com or at the Fergus Falls Campus Store by calling 218.736.1556 or visiting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
