Description
This course covers the objectives of the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board for certification as a Firefighter I. The MFSCB objectives are based on National Fire Protection Association 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.This will prepare the student to function at or above the minimum level of training for entry into a fire protection career field.

  1. Identify the history of the fire service and advances in the profession.
  2. Describe the measures available to improve firefighter health and safety.
  3. Recognize basic building construction concepts.
  4. Describe key fire behavior using accurate terminology and apply it during fire situations.
  5. Identify the different types of water distribution systems.
  6. Describe the different support skills necessary for fire suppression, including but not limited to ladders, ventilation, forcible entry, and ropes and knots.
  7. Describe the methods to safely perform a search and rescue in an Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) environment.
